BAGHDAD, July 23 (Xinhua) -- At least four people were killed and 36 wounded on Monday in a car bomb explosion at a marketplace in Iraq's southern city of Diwaniyah, a local police source said.
The attack occurred before midday when a booby-trapped car parked at a busy marketplace at the predominantly Shiite city of Diwaniyah, some 180 km south of Baghdad, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
Iraqi security forces sealed off the scene, while ambulances and civilian cars evacuated the victims to the city hospitals, the source said.
The blast came as a string of bomb and gunfire attacks across the Iraqi cities that killed 68 people and wounded some 241 others.
