UNITED NATIONS, July 16 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-general Ban Ki- moon on Monday welcomed the official launch of the preparatory process for the National Dialogue Conference in Yemen.

In a statement released here by his spokesperson, Ban commended Yemeni President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi, as well as the government and people of Yemen, for their determination to keep the transition process on track.

"The national dialogue will be an opportunity for all actors in Yemen to collectively establish a new social contract and achieve national reconciliation," said Ban.

President Hadi on Saturday formed a preparatory commission for holding a reconciliation national dialogue, which aims at settling disputes between rival forces in line with a UN-backed deal.

The dialogue's agenda would include the preparations for rewriting the constitution, forming an election committee and holding the presidential election at the end of Hadi's two-year interim term in 2014.

According to the statement, the secretary-general's special adviser on Yemen, Jamal Benomar, has just concluded a two-week mission to the Middle East country, during which he engaged with all Yemeni sides to support preparations for the national dialogue and other transition tasks.
