DAVAO CITY, Philippines, July 15 (Xinhua) -- Five people were killed and several others wounded when a truck rammed a group of people at a dumpsite in the southern Philippine city of Davao Saturday afternoon, local police said on Sunday.
The accident happened at New Carmen, a village in the city's Tugbok district, around 1:30 p.m. Saturday, according to Superintendent Marcial Magistrado, spokesperson of the southern Mindanao police.
In a text message, Magistrado told Xinhua that the dump truck owned by Comval Tropical Fruits Inc. was traveling towards the dumpsite but lost its brakes and plowed a dozen people.
The injured were rushed to the Southern Philippines Medical Center for treatment.
Magistrado said the driver is now under police custody facing criminal charges.
