Foreign holdaymakers coming into Indonesia up in May

JAKARTA, July 2 (Xinhua) -- The number of foreign tourist arrivals in Indonesia in May rose by 8.45 percent to 650,900 people on yearly basis, the Statistic Bureau announced said here on Monday.

Head of the bureau named only Suryamin told a press conference that the number of foreign holidaymakers coming into Bali, the center of Indonesia tourism industry, increased by 5.59 percent to 208,800 people in May on yearly basis.

Last yesr, Indonesia foreign tourist arrivals rose to 7.65 million people, higher than the 7.0 million people in the previous year, the bureau said.

Indonesian Minister for Tourism and Creative Economy Mari Elka Pangestu has said that the debt crisis in Europe would not have a significant impact on the country's tourism industry as the government has diversified the market.

The Southeast Asia's largest economy expected 9.5 million holidaymekers by 2014, 1 million of which from China, the minister told Xinhua.

The Indonesian tourism industry has recovered from the impact of terrorism, and epidemics.
