Russia's deep sea research ship starts sail

MOSCOW, June 20 (Xinhua) -- A deep sea research ship "Seliger" has started a sail from the Yantar shipbuilding yard in the Kaliningrad region to its port on the Azov Sea, the Yantar said Wednesday.

According to the yard, the 59.7-meter long Seliger, which is capable to carry 25 persons, is designed for deep sea research and rescue operations. Its construction started in July 2009 under the Russian Defense Ministry's order.

The Seliger will be based at the Temryuk port in Rostov region in Southern Russia. In Temryuk, the ship will undertake the final tests.

Local reports said the Seliger will be passed to the Defense Ministry in August.

The Seliger's trip to Temryuk will last 10 days.
