Russia: "6 plus 1" format for Iranian nuclear talks should continue

MOSCOW, June 15 (Xinhua) -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said here Friday that the format of "six plus one" for Iranian nuclear talks should continue.

"We have a common opinion that the talks in this format must be continued," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told reporters following the meeting with his Iraqi counterpart Hoshyar Zebari.

According to Lavrov, there were enough ideas and proposals which could be implemented through the principals of mutuality during the talks between Iran and the six major world powers -- Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States.

He added that the working materials to be discussed in Moscow on June 18-19 have been drafted on these principals. These documents have been passed to the Iranian delegation during the previous round of talks in Baghdad in May.

Earlier this week, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi said that Tehran was optimistic about the results of the Moscow talks, hoping the talks would be constructive.

Russia, a veto-wielding power at the UN Security Council, plays an influential role in talks over Iran's nuclear issue.
