Nigeria assesses domestic airlines following crash

ABUJA, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Nigeria has established a nine-member panel to assess the operations of all domestic airlines in the country.

The panel would go beyond the tasks of investigating the recent air crash and would take a comprehensive examination of all domestic aircraft, Aviation Minister Stella Oduah told reporters after a weekly cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

The panel would assess the financial health of the airlines to determine their ability to function effectively and uphold their safety standards.

The panel is expected to submit a report in six weeks, she said.

A passenger plane crashed in Lagos on Sunday, killing all 153 people on board and another 40 on the ground.
