Nigerian embassies ordered to open condolence registers for air crash victims

ABUJA, June 5 (Xinhua) -- Nigerian embassies abroad were on Tuesday ordered to open condolence registers for the victims of an ill-fated aircraft en route southwestern Lagos State on Sunday.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Olugbenga Ashiru who gave the directive said national flags should also be flown at half-mast in the 103 Nigerian missions abroad.

Reacting to the tragic air crash on Sunday, the Nigerian president had declared a three-day national mourning for victims of the mishap.

The ill-fated plane, which took off on Sunday from Nigeria's capital Abuja, crashed into a residential area of Lagos, killing all 153 persons on board. A number of people on land, believed to be residents of the area, also perished in the mishap.
