MADRID, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Two people are confirmed dead and one remains missing by Friday following an explosion on Thursday in an olive oil factory in the village of Moraleja in the province of Caceres in southwestern Spain.
The explosion took place at around mid-day on Thursday, causing the roof of the building to collapse and creating intense heat that prevented firemen from commencing rescue work until around three and a half hours later.
The first victim was discovered late on Thursday by rescue teams, while the second body of an 88-year-old man was found on Friday morning.
Two other people suffering from burns were taken to hospital on Thursday afternoon, but are not in danger.
Local authorities have closed the EX-109 road, which passes by the factory, in both directions, fearing remaining olive oil in the factory building and its underground storage tanks could lead to further explosions.
The major of Moraleja has declared three days of mourning in memory of the victims.
