YEREVAN, Armenia, May 18 (Xinhua) -- Armenia's Communist Party said Friday that parliamentary elections held on May 6 "were rigged".

"We are confident that our party has received a couple of times more than the officially announced 16,000 votes," said Ruben Tovmasyan, first secretary of the Communist Party of Armenia, in a press conference.

According to the elections results released by the Central Electoral Commission of Armenia (CEC) on May 7, President Serzh Sargsyan's Republican Party had won a majority, or, at least 68 of the 131 seats, in the National Assembly and its coalition partner, the Prosperous Armenia Party, received 30.2 percent of the votes.

In contrast, the Communist Party of Armenia received 1.5 percent of the votes.
