ASHGABAT, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov was sworn in Friday for a second term in office after winning a landslide victory in Sunday's presidential election.
Taking the oath of office, Berdymukhamedov vowed to abide by the Constitution and Turkmen law, safeguard people's peaceful life and serve the Turkmen people with sincerity.
Berdymukhamedov also vowed to be "the guarantor of the rights of all the citizens of the Turkmen state."
Zhou Tienong, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, attended the inaugural ceremony as special envoy of President Hu Jintao.
Berdymukhamedov won 97.14 percent of the vote in Sunday's presidential polls.
Born in 1957, Berdymukhamedov, a trained dentist and former health minister, was elected to his first term with 89.23 percent of the vote in 2007 after the sudden death of his predecessor Saparmurat Niyazov.
