Turkey remains Georgia's largest trading partner in 2011: GeoStat

TBILISI, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- Turkey remained Georgia's largest trading partner in 2011, Georgia's statistical agency GeoStat said Thursday.

Georgia's total trade turnover with Turkey stood at 1.5 billion U.S. dollars, followed by Azerbaijan with 1.03 billion dollars, according to GeoStat.

Georgia's other major trading partners in 2011 included Ukraine, China Germany, Russia and the United States.

In 2011, Georgia's overall trade turnover increased by 36 percent year-on-year to 9.247 billion dollars.

The South Caucasus country exported in the past year 2.189 billion dollars worth of goods and services while imported 7.058 billion dollars of goods and services. Trade deficit increased by 32 percent to 4.869 billion dollars.

Top export items from Georgia were motor vehicles, ferro-alloys, fertilizers and nuts while biggest imports were petroleum products, motor vehicles, hydrocarbons and medicine.
