SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- "Steve Jobs," the only authorized biography of late Apple co-founder, on Tuesday rose to the top of Amazon.com's best-selling books for 2011, no more than two months after its initial release in late October.
On Amazon.com's latest listing of Best Seller in Books for 2011, the Jobs biography has reached the No. 1 place. But the online retail giant doesn't give exact sales numbers.
According to earlier data from Nielsen BookScan, the book sold around 383,000 copies in its first week of public release in the United States.
The biography broke records in many international markets. It has become the bestselling electronic titles in Brazil. In China's Taiwan, pre-orders for the book reportedly surpassed previous bestsellers shortly after Jobs passed away. It has also been one of the fastest-selling books in several countries and regions.
It is reported that Sony Pictures has acquired the rights for a feature film based on the book. Aaron Sorkin, a Academy and Emmy award winning U.S. screenwriter whose works include A Few Good Men, The West Wing and The Social Network, said he had been asked and was strongly considering taking on the screenplay.
Noah Wyle, who played Jobs in the 1999 made-for-TV film Pirates of Silicon Valley, as well as George Clooney are reportedly running to play the tech icon in the forthcoming film.
The biography, based on interviews with Jobs, his family members, friends, colleagues and business rivals, is written by former managing editor of Time magazine Walter Isaacson who has written popular biographies of Albert Einstein, Benjamin Franklin and Henry Kissinger.
