China adds twenty new criminal charges to existing legal system

BEIJING, Oct. 31 (Xinhuanet) -- China has decided to add twenty new criminal charges to the existing legal system. The announcement was jointly made by the Supreme People's Court, and the Supreme People's Procuratorate on Friday.

Five out of the twenty new charges are related to terrorism, including preparations to conduct terrorist activities, spreading terrorism, extremism and inciting terrorist activities, and wearing clothes and logos indicating terrorism.

The other charges cover areas such as exam cheating, using fake or stolen ID cards, as well as bringing false lawsuits. The changes also include 13 revisions, including the revision on the crime of sex with an underage prostitute to the crime of rape.

The judicial interpretations will be put into force on November 1st.
