BEIJING, Oct. 31 (Xinhuanet) -- German Chancellor Angela Merkel has visited a university in east China's Anhui province, to promote a student exchange program. Merkel was met at the university campus by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, along with crowds of cheering students waving German and Chinese flags.
Her visit coincided with the 30th anniversary of the exchange programme between the University of Hefei and Germany. During her two-day visit to China, Merkel has aimed to promote trade partnership and mutual trust between the two nations. This is Merkel's eighth visit to China since taking office in 2005. Premier Li Keqiang says the student exchange programme will help improve the bilateral relations.
"The Chinese government will make this demonstration a base for Sino-German cooperation. It will provide support for cooperation between Chinese and German enterprises, especially the Chinese and German enterprises in China, and much more than (support for) just business and human resources," Li Keqiang said.
"When I see the many motivated young people here, who are experiencing learning, and the ones who were standing outside and greeting us, then Mr Premier, I believe it is a good idea to promote the Germany-China youth exchange, student exchange. There will be many motivated Chinese who will come to Germany, and there will be many motivated Germans who would really like to come to China," Merkel said.
