BEIJING, Oct. 31 (Xinhuanet) -- At least 27 people have been killed, and more than 180 injured, from a fire and subsequent explosion at a Bucharest nightclub. Up to 400 people were enjoying a rock concert, when a pillar and the club's ceiling reportedly caught fire before there was an explosion with heavy plumes of smoke.
One witness said there were fireworks inside the club. The country's Deputy Interior Minister said many of the injured found their way to a local hospital on their own. An investigation into the causes of the incident is already underway, but the death toll is likely to rise even higher.
