Death toll rises to over 350 in Afganhistan, Pakistan

BEIJING, Oct. 28 (Xinhuanet) -- The powerful earthquake in northern Afghanistan has killed more than 350 people in Afghanistan and Pakistan, with thousands more injured.

The magnitude 7.5 quake struck the Hindu Kush mountain range on Monday afternoon. It also rattled Pakistan, India and Tajikistan.

The earthquake claimed at least 115 lives in Afghanistan, 241 people in Pakistan and three in Indian-controlled Kashmir.

It was felt in as far as the Indian capital New Delhi and Kashgar in China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

In the Afghan capital Kabul, electric power and communications were temporarily interrupted, and some buildings sustained damage. In neighboring Pakistan, the tremor caused mudslides and road damage in the northwest region.

In Pakistan's Chitral district, around 80-thousand people are without clean drinking water.
