BEIJING, Oct. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- The conservative opposition Law and Justice Party has won Poland’s parliamentary elections. Its eurosceptic leader, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, immediately declared victory as cheering crowds greeted him on stage.
"The law will be respected, we will pursue the truth. But there will be no revenge, no negative emotions, no personal games or personal settling of scores. There will be no kicking of those who have fallen, even if they are responsible for their own fall and deserve it," Kaczynski said.
The outgoing Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz, of the centrist Civic Platform party, admitted defeat. Law and Justice has strong support in Poland's rural areas. If the numbers suggested by the exit poll are confirmed, it will be the first time since democracy was restored in Poland in 1989 that a single party can rule alone.
