Overseas schools woo Chinese at the expo

English.news.cn   2015-10-25 10:56:58

BEIJING, Oct. 25 (Xinhuanet) -- Some good news for Chinese students who are seeking overseas study experience. The 2015 China Education Expo kicked off in Beijing on Saturday. The 2-day expo aims to provide a communication platform for Chinese students and overseas schools.

A channel for overseas study information. This year's education expo has attracted some 600 schools from more than 40 countries and regions. Nearly 100 schools will organize face-to-face interviews and lectures to provide the students with customized evaluations. And the expo organiser says this year, there will be even more services on offer.

Zong Wa from China Education Assoc. for Int'l Exchange said:"Students can go to the education expo's official website, or the official account on Wechat, for online consultations. And there will be personnel from schools to answer their questions online."

The expo has been held annually since 2000, and last year it has attracted nearly 50,000 visitors. With the number of students choosing to study overseas rocketing in recent years, some problems have also emerged.

According to statistics, in 2014, around 8,000 Chinese students in the US dropped out of school, due to low to average scores and language problems.

Shi Yan, an overseas study expert said:"Universities in the US will not pick students through college entrance examination like us, but they have a very high requirements for the students' academic records in school. And the students will be very likely expelled from school if their scores are too low or if their attendence is too poor to reach the standards."

Whether a chance or a challenge. It's obvious the choice of whether or not to study overseas still merits cautious and careful consideration from Chinese students.
