BEIJING, Oct. 24 (Xinhuanet) --Chinese President Xi Jinping has started the final day of his first state visit to the United Kingdom. Xi arrived at the Manchester Town Hall where he had lunch with UK Prime Minister David Cameron.
The Manchester Town Hall in Albert Square is one of the most iconic landmarks in the city and is one of the finest examples of Neo-Gothic architecture in the United Kingdom.
President Xi earlier visited the National Graphene Institute at the University of Manchester. He was greeted there by the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne.
Xi acknowledged the influence of the institution on graphene research during his visit. He said new materials will play key role in developments in such areas as the global economy, science and technology and the environment. China is rich in graphene and active in graphene research. Xi hoped the cooperation between China and UK in graphene research can benefit both sides.
