BEIJING, Oct. 23 (Xinhuanet) -- Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi said President Xi's visit will further revitalize China-UK relations.
He believes that the visit will enhance the Sino-British comprehensive strategic partnership level. Wang said that China and the UK could build a good partnership based on equality and mutual trust.
The UK is China's second largest trade partner among the EU countries, while China is the UK's main investment destination in Asia. Wang said both sides should strengthen pragmatic cooperation in innovation, finance and other fields, to better benefit their people.
The foreign minister also said China and Britain share comprehensive common interests while shouldering the important responsibility of promoting world peace and stability.
Wang said acting as permanent members of the United Nations' Security Council, China and Britain have maintained good long-term communication on regional and global affairs.
The foreign Minister said the two sides need to deepen bilateral exchanges, expecially to elevate people-to-people exchanges. This year marks the first "China-UK Cultural Exchange Year", with both sides holding various activities in the other country.
