Researcher: 'Golden opportunity' for bilateral ties

English.news.cn   2015-10-22 20:08:32

BEIJING, Oct. 22 (Xinhuanet) -- President Xi's state visit to the UK has also drawn a lot of attention internationally. In an interview with CCTV, a senior political researcher with the Organisation for Economic Coordination and Development -- the OECD -- said the two countries have a great chance to further develop their relations in all sectors.

Carl Dahlman is the head of the Thematic Division at the OECD Development Center, a Paris-based platform for policy dialogue between OECD members.

He said Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to the United Kingdom marks the beginning of a "golden opportunity" for the development of bilateral relations.

Dahlman added that China's "One Belt, One Road" initiative, and the establishment of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, will facilitate the integration of the central and eastern Asian markets, which will create a vast market for the UK to boost its economy. Dahlman believes, with its edge in international finance, the UK can become a crucial part of China's plan to promote its currency, the Reminbi, overseas.

Dahlman also said that by broadening their cooperation in sectors such as in finance, education and culture, they can complement each other and achieve a lasting relationship.
