BEIJING, Oct. 22 (Xinhuanet) -- Syrian President Bashar al Assad has made a surprise visit to Moscow for talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. The pair discussed the ongoing conflict in Syria, after Russia started air strikes there in September.

Meanwhile Russian air strikes in Syria have been continuing. This defence ministry video showing operations in the country. But bashar al Assad 's surprise visit here also a chance for him to express thanks to president Putin for his backing.
Russia says it will continue to support president assad in Syria despite criticism from the US and other western nations While Washington says Russia is propping up a leader it believes must go. Russia insists it is supporting Syria's legitimate government and it's fight against terrorism.
