BEIJING, Oct. 20 (Xinhuanet) -- The Chinese Ministry of Commerce says that Britain is China's second largest trading partner within the European Union, while China is Britain's fourth-largest. The ministry is confident that President Xi Jinping's visit will bring more opportunities to economic and trade cooperation.
"The Ministry of Commerce pays great attention to President Xi's state visit to the United Kingdom. This visit will reach a series of important economic achievements in the fields of finance, energy, medical care, the auto industry, and real estate. These will involve a large amount of money, and will fully reflect the characteristics and potential of China-UK economic and trade cooperation," said Shen Danyang, spokesman, Chinese Ministry of Commerce.
In 2014, bilateral trade value increased over 15 percent year on year to more than 80 billion US dollars. The growth rate ranked the first among all China's trade partners in the EU. The spokesman also said that China's "One road, one belt" initiative, and Britain's " Revitalization program of northern England" will expand cooperation in infrastructure, and the ministry will fully encourage and support these projects.
