BEIJING, Oct. 19 (Xinhuanet) -- Defense officials from the US and Russia have held a video conference to discuss safe flight operations over Syria. The Pentagon statement says progress was made.
The latest round of military contact comes days after US and Russian aircraft came within visual range during a mission on Saturday. They are currently engaged in talks aimed at ensuring "deconfliction" of air operations.
On Wednesday, US defense chief Ash Carter said the US would not cooperate with Russia's airstrikes in Syria, calling the strikes a "misguided strategy".
Russia began the airstrikes on September 30th, after weeks of military buildup inside the Arab country. The Kremlin insists that its goal in Syria is to target the Islamic State group. Washington accuses it of targeting rebels who oppose the Syrian government.
