BEIJING, Oct.18 (Xinhuanet) -- The United State's nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, the USS Ronald Reagan, will take part in a South Korean naval parade next week. The parade is to mark the 70th anniversary of South Korea's liberation and founding of its navy.
It is part of a week-long military exercise which started Saturday off the port city of Busan. About 5,800 military personnel as well as dozens of military vehicles were mobilized by South Korea for the event. The U-S-S Ronald Reagan moved to its new home in Japan's Yokosuka naval port last month, after being stationed in San Diego for 11 years.
South Korea and the DPRK remain technically at war since the 1953 truce treaty. More than 1.8 million troops are deployed on the peninsula, making it one of the world's most heavily armed regions.
