BEIJING, Oct. 17 (Xinhuanet) -- After 43 years of full diplomatic ties, China and Britain are entering a 'golden era of relations', with trade, investment, culture and education exchanges all on the rise. Leaders in both countries have used the term, including British Prime Minister David Cameron in his Chinese New Year speech this year, in which he predicted greater cooperation over the next five years.
CCTV has interviewed Liu Xiaoming, China's Ambassador to the UK. He gave us his opinions on the development of bilateral economic ties.
Liu Xiaoming, China's Ambassador to UK said:"The pragmatic cooperation has expanded. China is the UK's fourth largest trading partner. The UK has become China's second largest trading partner in the EU. UK is also China's largest investment destination, especially in the areas of airports, infrastructure and energy projects. Cooperation in the financial area has also made great achievements. London has become the largest offshore RMB trading center, Hong Kong excluded.
This march, the UK was the first Western country to join the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. These moves have promoted pragmatic cooperation between the two countries. I think President Xi Jinping's visit to the UK will bring both countries more opportunities for trade and economic cooperation."
