Educational policies benefit impoverished students

BEIJING, Oct. 16 (Xinhuanet) -- China's ministry of education has adopted 20 policies to benefit impoverished students.

One of them is geared torwards improving the basic condition of schools in impoverished areas. The ministry says all public schools must reach a certain standard by 2018.

From 2013 up to now, about 144 billion yuan of financial support has benefitted more than 30 million students.

Over one-third of counties nationwide have now implemented nutrition improvement plans, which provide a four-yuan allowance for each student every day.

Tibet has celebrated 15 years of free education. Food, accommodation and tuition fees are all complimentary from preschool to high school.
