Turkey, Bulgaria pledge to boost cooperation on refugee crisis

English.news.cn   2015-10-15 21:07:53

BEIJING, Oct. 15 (Xinhuanet) -- Meanwhile, both Turkey and its neighbor Bulgaria have pledged to boost cooperation. They made the pledge at a joint press conference involving Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, and his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu.

Borisov stressed his full support for Turkey in tackling the influx of more than two million refugees. Ankara has spent almost eight billion US dollars alone to meet its expenses.

During a Europe visit last week, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan urged the EU to share this burden.

The two leaders agreed that creating a "safe zone" in northern Syria would facilitate the return of the refugees to their homelands. Turkey adopted an open-door policy toward Syrian refugees after the neighbor was plunged into chaos in 2011.
