BEIJING, Oct. 12 (Xinhuanet) -- Defense officials from the United States and Russia have held a video conference to discuss safe flight operations over Syria. This comes nine days after defense officials from both sides held their first round of talks on airstrikes in Syria. Meanwhile, Russia says it has stepped up its air campaign against Islamic State militants in Syria.
A first ray of optimism. Russia and the U.S. announced "progress in talks" with the Pentagon saying discussions focused on implementing specific safety procedures. Meanwhile, Russia is ramping up its air campaign against ISIL militants in Syria.
On Sunday, it announced new strikes in the provinces of Hama, Lattakia, Idlib and Raqqa saying 53 terrorist positions were destroyed in the past day. Russia earlier said morale was low among the extremist militants after days of repeated strikes.
Syria's Ambassador to Russia echoed the sentiment saying Russia's air campaign was effective, having destroyed about 40 percent of ISIL's infrastructure in just a week. In plain words, the Ambassador said Russia's efforts had outperformed operations by the U.S. coalition.
