BEIJING, Oct. 11 (Xinhuanet) -- At China Open, Rafa Nadal was one win away from making it to the final here in Beijing. But he would face a tricky opponent in Fabio Fognini, who had beaten the Spaniard in three of their last four matches, including a famous upset at last month's U.S. Open, where the Italian came from two-sets down to stun Nadal.
Fognini is on serve late in the opener, but Rafa would get a break after the Italian finds the net -- and he is not happy with that.
And a couple points later Nadal would try and seal the set -- constantly hitting to his opponent's backhand -- and eventually that strategy pays off as Fognini would hit one long, as the third seed takes the frame 7-5.
Second set and things are a little more straightforward -- Rafa serving to advance to the final, and when Fognini falters again by failing to keep the ball in play, Nadal seals victory. The former World Number One takes it 7-5, 6-3.
As for the rest of the Semi-Finals. On the women's side Ana Ivanovic is on court against Timea Bacsinszky, while fifth seed Garbine Muguruza is up against the number four seed Agnieszka Radwanska. And the nightcap sees defending champ and World Number One Novak Djokovic playing David Ferrer, for a place in the final against Rafa.
