Joint Syrian-Russian airstrikes recapture Al-Bahsa

English.news.cn   2015-10-10 22:19:34

BEIJING, Oct. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- Syrian Armed Forces have taken control of the Al-Bahsa settlement in what appears to be the first major cooperative effort between Russian and Syrian forces against ISIL.

Joint Syrian-Russian airstrikes launched a "wide-ranging" offensive in central and north-western Syria. Al-Qaida and other insurgents had advanced toward key government strongholds there in recent months. The operation that began on Wednesday in Hama Province was coordinated between Syrian troops and militia on the ground with Russian war planes and naval ships.

Al-Bahsa in Hama Province had been under the control of ISIL since August. The attack was made possible with support from Russian aircraft. 40 bodies of Al-Bahsa residents were found when the Syrian Army entered the city.
