BEIJING, Oct.10 (Xinhuanet) --Police in Germany have stormed Volkswagen's headquarters in Wolfsburg and private apartments across the country. The raids come as the investigation into a massive emissions scandal continues to widen.
Prosecutors say investigators sought to secure documents and digital data that could point to those responsible for so-called "defeat devices" that allowed VW to intentionally cheat pollution tests.
Last month, VW revealed that it had equipped 11 million vehicles with software that switches the engine to a low-emissions mode during tests.
The software then turns off pollution controls when the vehicle is on the road, allowing it to spew out harmful levels of toxic gases.
On Wednesday, Volkswagen submitted plans that said it will begin recalling affected vehicles from January.
