BEIJING, Oct. 6 (Xinhuanet) – Russia says its warplanes have bombed ten Islamic State targets in the past 24 hours. A Kremlin spokesman said Russian operations in Syria are aimed at supporting the Syrian army and targeting terrorists there.
The targets include Islamic State tanks and artillery positions. Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says Moscow could hold direct contact with the US over its operations in Syria in the near future.
Russia said earlier its military campaign in Syria will last three to four months. Sergei Lavrov said Russia is now expecting a response from their US counterparts.
"We also spoke about the need in the near future for additional direct contact between the military. Our American collegues promised to give quick answers to these offers. I think these days we should receive it. Then we can in more details tell what we are planning," said Sergei Lavrov, Russian foreign minister.
