BEIJING, Oct. 6 (Xinhuanet) -- Israel police have temporarily barred Palestinians from entering Jerusalem's Old City. This comes after attacks that killed two Israelis and wounded three others.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the new measures in a Sunday broadcast. For two days, entry to the Old City in East Jerusalem is restricted to Israeli and Jerusalem residents, schoolchildren and business owners. Palestinian men under 50 are barred from entering al-Aqsa mosque for prayers.
Tensions elsewhere in Jerusalem continue to escalate. In the West Bank city of Jenin on Sunday, Israeli forces conducted a raid to arrest what they called "wanted men involved in terrorist activities". A crowd of Palestinians threw explosives.
Witnesses say about 22 Palestinians were wounded by live ammunition. Early Sunday, a Palestinian stabbed and wounded an Israeli teenager in West Jerusalem, before being shot dead by police.
