BEIJING, Oct. 5 (Xinhuanet) -- The typhoon that has been lashing southern China has weakened to tropical storm. The storm has led to the deaths of six people and sixteen are missing.

Typhoon Mujigae landed in Guangdong on Sunday afternoon and headed west for the neighboring Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The storm is now moving northwest at a speed of about 20 kilometers per hour. It has wreaked havoc during China's golden week public holiday when many people are travelling.

Guangxi issued its second highest storm alert and suspended services of eleven high-speed trains running along the coast for 12 hours from noon on Sunday and halted ticket sales of the trains until Monday at noon.

Mujigae cut off electricity in some areas in Guangdong and forced nearly 39,000 fishing boats to return to harbor or nearby shelters. The storm is expected to continue to bring heavy rain and strong winds to the coastal areas of Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan through Monday.

The twenty-second typhoon this year, Mujigae, which in Korean means rainbow, brought with it anything but that.

On top of the fierce winds and torrential rains. Angry tides. This is a park in Hainan's provincial capital Haikou, submerged under water.

This reporter said it was a struggle just to keep his eyes open in the deluge of rain. And in the city center, water 20 centimeters deep.

In Zhanjiang in Guangdong Province, which met Mujigae head on, this reporter had to tie herself to a three-ton-heavy vehicle so that she doesn't get blown away.

While this one took to squatting to stabilize himself, as trees slammed down nearby. Transportation is crippled. High-speed trains linking Haikou and Sanya in Hainan, have been suspended. And 68 flights from and to the Haikou Meilan International Airport were cancelled.

The impact is also felt in Guangxi region, where all coastal high speed trains were suspended.
