Powerful typhoon Mujigae causes havoc in S. China

BEIJING, Oct. 5 (Xinhuanet) -- Typhoon Mujigae has landed in the southern province of Guangdong, midway through the county's golden week public holiday when many people are travelling around. It was packing strong winds with a speed of 50 meters per second at its eye.

More than 25,000 fishing boats in Hainan, and nearly 39,000 fishing boats in Guangdong have returned to harbor or nearby shelters. Dozens of flights were cancelled, thousands of people were evacuated, and the local government has called staff back to gear up for the disaster.

The twenty-second typhoon this year, Mujigae, which in Korean means rainbow, brought with it anything but that. On top of the fierce winds and torrential rains, angry tides. This is a park in Hainan's provincial capital Haikou, submerged under water.
