BEIJING, Oct. 4 (Xinhuanet) -- French Prime Minister Manuel Valls has urged Russia to direct air strikes only at Islamic State jihadists in Syria. Speaking to journalists on a visit to Japan, Valls said Russia should not "get the wrong targets", echoing the words of French President Francois Hollande to Russian President Vladimir Putin at a Paris summit on Friday.
"We should hit the right targets which in this case means the Islamic State. If ISIL is the enemy that attacks our society, and it is obviously the case for France, it can also be true for Russia, so it means ISIL needs to be targeted. This is what France is doing and we ask everyone not to get the wrong targets," Valls said.
Valls also called on Russia to spare civilian lives, hitting out at Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's sanctioning of the use of destructive weapons against his own population. Syria was among the topics of discussion during a Friday dinner held by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe for Valls in Kyoto. (Source: cntv.cn)
