Lavrov: Russia coordinating with Syria military

English.news.cn   2015-10-02 15:44:16

BEIJING, Oct. 2 (Xinhuanet) -- Russian air forces are continuing their campaign of airstrikes. Moscow has sent more than fifty warplanes and helicopters to Syria in the past two days.

According to Russia's Defense Ministry, eight sorties were carried out early morning Thursday local time, destroying four ISIL targets near the cities of Hama and Homs in western Syria. The targets reportedly included a weapons and ammunition depot, a fuel and lubricants factory, command and communication posts and transport vehicles. Another eight ISIL targets were hit by Russian military aircraft on the first day of the operation. And the Lebanon-based al-Mayadeen TV reported that Tabqa airbase in the northern Raqqa province, an Islamic State stronghold, was also bombed on Thursday. The capture of the airbase by ISIL forces in August 2014 was seen as a major blow for the Syrian military.
