Lu Chuan's movie premieres in Beijing

BEIJING, Sept. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- A Chinese fantasy story has come to theatres with a heavy dose of Hollywood special effects. For actors, making such a film requires a feat of imagination. Director Lu Chuan joined cast members on the red carpet on Thursday for the premiere of "Chronicles of the Ghostly Tribe".

The movie is adapted from the fantasy novel "Ghost Blows Out the Light" first published online in March 2006 and later in hardback. It became an instant best-seller.

For this adaptation, director Lu Chuan, best known for his art films, spent half the budget on special effects. He recruited John Sheils, visual-effects supervisor on "The Lord of the Rings", to give the movie a more Hollywood feel.

"There are more than 1500 special-effects shots in this movie, which were made by over 4000 editors of eight multinational companies worldwide. It took six months. I really appreciate their hard work," director Lu Chuan said.

"That's the shot. As soon as the director sent it to me, I saved it in my phone. I show it to whoever I run into, saying: 'Look, this special effect shot cost our frugal director 200 thousand yuan'," said Yao Chen, the actress.

Actress Tang Yan said she was apprehensive performing her scenes without real-life scene partners.

"Actually, the strongest feeling that I had during the shooting of this film was, 'It's unbelievable.' I had to resort to my imagination, because there was no monster during the shooting," Tang Yan said.

The movie tells the story of two people who go on an adventure to Kun Lun mountain, where they discover a secret. "Chronicles of the Ghostly Tribe" will hit Chinese theaters on the 30th September in 3D, ahead of China's National Day.
