BEIJING, Sept. 24 (Xinhuanet) -- The Chinese government has issued a White Paper on Xinjiang ahead of the 60th anniversary of the Uygur Autonomous Region. The document reviews social and economic development in the past 60 years.
Xinjiang has seen its fastest growth in history. More houses, better infrastructure, environmental protection, upgraded water resources, greater Internet access and equal rights in education...The quality of life has improved for the people.
The region's 12 ethnic minorities are encouraged to use their own language and keep their own customs and religions, allowing their own cultures to flourish.
The White Paper notes that Xinjiang stands in a special position to connect China and the West, and is ready to open up.
"Xinjiang is now facing the historical opportunity of building into the core area of the Silk Road Economic Belt. The future of Xinjiang is promising. Xinjiang will broaden its mind to embrace friends both at home and abroad for investment and travel, so that we can join hands in the development of Xinjiang," said Shohrat Zakir, chairman of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
And the central government wants to ensure Xinjiang's success.
"The central government has given Xinjiang huge support in terms of policy, finance and professional personnel to help with its development. In 2010 and 2014, the central government held two meetings to discuss work related to Xinjiang, giving Xinjiang more guiding principles to grow the economy," Shohrat Zakir said.
The White Paper states 1.7 trillion RMB has been granted to Xinjiang over the past 60 years, boosting its development.
60 years of changes and achievements, Xinjiang is opening a new chapter in history. Facts give that only the support from the central government can Xinjiang sees more momentum in its social and economic development.
