BEIJING, Sept. 22 (Xinhuanet) -- 2015 is a special year because it marks the 70th anniversary of victory in the World Anti-Fascist War and the founding of the United Nations. 2015 is a year of historical significance and one of great importance for world unity. China has been sparing no efforts in contributing to global peace. Let's take a look now at the country's role in the international community during recent decades.
A staunch supporter of the current world order.
That's how Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi described China's role in the global community at this year's Lanting Forum.
Taking a look back at history, 70 years ago.
Facing the scourge of fascism and suffering casualties of 35 million people, China joined with other peace loving countries in the world to achieve victory in the war and become a founding member of the United Nations and permanent member of its Security Council.
Later, in 1971, China's lawful seat in the United Nations was finally restored after an effort of more than 20 years and thanks to support from other developing countries.
Moreover, in 2001, China also achieved its goal of becoming a member of the World Trade Organization after 15 years of tough negotiations.
China has participated in more than 400 multilateral treaties and has joined nearly every international organization with more and more Chinese citizens serving in key positions.
China has become one of the most important participants in international affairs and, as Foreign Minister Wang Yi said, a staunch supporter of the international order.
"China will stick to its own path of building a socialist country with its own characteristics, upholding independent and peaceful diplomacy, pushing forward the strategy of mutual benefits. China doesn't seek hegemony, but a peaceful development; China doesn't exercise power politics, but democracy in international relations; China doesn't play 'zero-sum' games, but pursues a 'win-win' situation; China isn't bent solely on profits, but wants the right values of justice and profits," Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi said.
The foreign minister added that there is no reason why China should challenge the international order that is based on the victory against fascism. And there is no incentive for China to overturn the international system, in which it is a full member.
Wang also said that China will work with other countries and play its due part in making the international order and system more just and equitable.
