1,500 people cross from Hungary to Austria

English.news.cn   2015-09-19 19:14:36

BEIJING, Sept. 19 (Xinhuanet) -- Austria has received around 1,500 migrants and refugees after they crossed the border from Hungary on foot early Saturday. The large groups of people were received by Austrian police and aid workers who provided them with food, tea and blankets. They were then put on buses to Vienna's Westbahnhof station, where they will be allowed to travel onward by train.

The move comes despite an apparent hardening of Vienna's stance towards the thousands of asylum seekers trying to cross the Balkans to get to Germany and Austria. On Friday, an interior ministry spokesman said that Austria reserves the right to deny entry if migrants do not want to apply for asylum.
