Xi Jinping to meet with Barack Obama

BEIJING, Sept. 18 (Xinhuanet) -- The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has briefed the press on President Xi's state visit to the United States next week. Details of President Xi Jinping's state visit to the United States have been finally released by the ministry of foreign affairs. President Xi Jinping is scheduled to visit Seattle and Washington D.C. during his trip. In Seattle, the Chinese president will attend a welcoming banquet that will be jointly hosted by local government officials and friendly organisations.

The foreign ministry says Xi will also deliver an important speech concerning China-U.S relations. Xi will also meet with local and federal officials and attend two seminars -- one with Chinese provincial governors and U.S state governors; the other with entrepreneurs.

In Washington, Xi is to attend a series of activities arranged by U.S President Barack Obama. Those activities include a welcoming ceremony, bilateral talks, a state banquet and a joint news conference.

The Chinese president will also attend a welcoming luncheon hosted by U.S Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of State John Kerry and meet with congressional officials. Xi's official state visit is expected to send bilateral ties to an even higher level.

Zheng Zeguang, Minister Assistant of Ministry of Foreign Affairs said:"The two leaders are expected to hold strategic communications and to exchange views regarding international affairs and their internal and external policies.The two leaders will also boost cooperation in areas including economics, trade, resources, environment and aerospace. Meanwhile, the two countries are also looking forward to introducing new policies aiming at improving inter-travel studies, travel and linguistic education."

The third and final stopover for President Xi will be New York City. The Chinese president will travel to the Big Apple at the invitation of UN chief Ban Ki-moon, to attend a series of events commemorating 70 years since the establishment of the United Nations. On the 28th, Xi will take the podium to address the UN general assembly for the first time.

"Chinese President Xi Jinping will illustrate China's stance and views regarding international order and patterns. He will also demonstrate China's stance and views on global development and other big international issues. In addition, Xi Jinping will announce some major measures of China regarding the maintaining of world peace and stability, supporting the U.N, and the development of multilateralism," said Li Baodong, Deputy Minister of Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Li says Xi's state visit to the U.S, along with his first trip to U.N headquarters, is considered a diplomatic event of great significance. Li says the visit is a milestone for China-U.S relations and world development and stability.
