BEIJING, Sept. 16 (Xinhuanet) -- Hangzhou in Zhejiang province has just been named as the host of the 2022 Asian Games.
Hangzhou was the only candidate to stage the multi-sport event, and the Olympic Committee of Asia made the formal announcement at its 34th council meeting Wednesday in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
Beijing and Guangzhou staged the competition in 1990 and 2010.
The 2022 Asian Games will be the 19th edition of the multi-sport showcase, making it a busy year for Chinese athletics as Beijing will also host the Winter Olympics in 2022.
Hangzhou hopes that staging the games will develop the sports industry in the city.
