BEIJING, Sept. 15 (Xinhuanet) -- For the first time ever, a South-American film has taken the Golden Lion award. As the Venice International Film wrapped up on Saturday, its top prize went to 'From Afar', a Venezuelan Film dealing with childhood trauma and how it plays out in adulthood.

The first fiction feature of Lorenzo Vigas, 'From Afar' centers on the relationship between a middle-aged man and a street youth. It also deals with the undercurrents of sex, money and violence in Venezuelan society.

"I made this film to make people talk about problems that we share, that we have in Venezuela, social, political, economic problems. We also share these problems with other Latin American countries," Vigas said.

The Silver Lion for Best Director went to another South American, Argentinian director Pablo Trapero for 'The Clan', a thriller based on a true-crime story.

France's Fabrice Luchini was named Best Actor for his role in "Courted", where he plays a judge trying to rekindle romance while presiding over a murder trial. The film also won Best Screenplay in the main competition.

Best Actress went to Italy's Valeria Golino for the family drama "For Your Love".

Chinese influence also played an important role in closing the festival, with the screening of Guan Hu's "Mr. Six".

The world's oldest film festival wrapped up Saturday after 11 days of parties and premieres that saw Jake Gyllenhaal, Kristen Stewart, and Johnny Depp on the red carpet.
