China gets tougher on SOE corruption

English.news.cn   2015-09-14 20:09:43

BEIJING, Sept. 14 (Xinhuanet) -- China's huge state-owned enterprises are known by the public as both too corrupt to save and too powerful to fail. But with dozens of high-profile cases exposed since 2012, China's anti-corruption drive offers hope for change in SOEs.

The State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, SASAC, reported more than 70 top executives in State-owned enterprises were placed under investigation last year. A survey shows SOEs in the energy and resources sectors are the most prone to corruption.

Last year, nearly 20 executives in such companies were charged with corruption. Other susceptible sectors are finance, media and telecommunications.
