BEIJING, Sept. 7 (Xinhuanet) -- During a press conference for the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Tibet Autonomous Region, a Tibetan official denounced the Dalai Lama for declaring Gendun Choekyi Nyima as the reincarnation of the Panchen Lama. He said the selection "ignored historical customs and destroyed religious rituals".
"The reincarnated child Panchen Lama you mentioned is being educated, living a normal life, growing up healthily and does not wish to be disturbed.... The identification by the 14th Dalai Lama was done without authorization. It was illegal and invalid," Norbu Dunzhub, official of Tibet Autonomous Region's United Front Work Dep't, said.
