Thousands arrive in Munich for asylum

English.news.cn   2015-09-06 16:38:03

BEIJING, Sept. 6 (Xinhuanet) -- Thousands of asylum-seekers have arrived in the German city of Munich. That's after the Austrian and German governments agreed to waive European Union regulations. But Berlin says the move is a "one-off".

It is the country they dreamed of. Even after nightfall – the trains continued to arrive with hundreds of weary souls on board. Crowds of Germans stayed out late to welcome them. Many bought food and water.

Through the day, thousands were taken from here to make-shift accommodation nearby. Even for that short final leg – some still rushed to find a place, with the end of the journey now in plain site.

And many more are coming. A second group set out on foot from Hungary on Saturday morning. Though the government there has promised to prevent asylum-seekers from heading west – while locking down the point of entry: the eastern border with Serbia.

The route here may change. But few expect the flow to stop.
