BEIJING, Aug. 29 (Xinhuanet) -- UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will arrive in China for a five-day visit starting from next Wednesday. He will attend the V-Day celebrations in Beijing on September the 3rd.

Ahead of the trip, Ban met with the Chinese media at the UN Headquarters in New York. He said taking part in the commemorations is part of his duty as UN chief, and emphasized the importance of building upon lessons learned in the war for a brighter future.

"The whole world is now commemorating the 70th anniversary of the ending of the Second World War, most tragic in the history of human beings and at the same time the founding of the United Nations."

"It's important to look to the past, what kinds of lessons we have been learning, and how we can move ahead to a brighter future based on the lessons learned. That is the main purpose that I'm coming to China at the invitation of President Xi Jinping," Ban Ki-moon said.
